Slow Down and Just Relax

The things we take for granted! Like our moments of peaceful opportunities, or time to reflect, to pray, to enjoy the blessings we've been gifted with, to just simply listen. Why do so many of us pass up these opportunities? Sometimes it takes a special place just to make us stop and unwind. Road trips and money are not always the escape.  Maybe it's a fishing hole, a drive through the country or the city, or even a place at home like a corner where you can crash in a comfy chair with a good book... for me, my porch is my get away. Well, I share it sometimes... this is Beans holding down my chair.

My project for my porch this past week was a mosquito barrier! I'm testing out some repellent tricks. I recently read that Lemon Basil, Thyme, Lemon Verbena, Lantana, and Bee Balm (or Monarda) are some of the plants that mosquitoes do not enjoy. I gave up on Citronella plants. So, we'll see how my surrounding barrier will work out for me. This pot in the picture has the Lemon Verbena, Thyme, and Bee Balm.  Repellent or not, it's pretty and it smells great!

It's safe to say that much of my down time this summer will be spent in my space, God willing! I welcome good reading time but mostly family and visitors who sit for a spell. It's a good place to be and although it seems small, it's the simple pleasures that bring the most rewards.  I'm so thankful for all of the blessings in my life. I am equally thankful for the challenges I've had and of those our families have faced head on.

Challenges and blessings are in the forecast for all of us so make yourself a space, take a breather, read, and spend time with special ones.  Make an extra seat for others. Share some laughter and spread some joy. Just be grateful and happy.

  1. Jennifer,
So well said, and so inviting. Now, you will need to get sound on your blog so Beans can sing his welcome! Love the new format and I look forward to spending some time on that porch with you. . .
